A different approach to finding a job

Posted on February 23, 2015 at 9:02 pm

When starting the hunt for a new job most people will trawl through numerous listing either at the jobcentre, online or in the newspaper. This will provide you with a long list of many vacancies for all sorts of available positions however sometimes, particularly if the job is advertised through a recruitment firm, the company that are advertising the position won’t be named. This means that you end up applying for a job with no idea who your future employer could be.

One of the most important things to consider when you’re looking for a job is what sort of company you’d be working for and it’s always worth knowing that in advance so that you can research the company ethics, their business history and their market reputation.

Normally the company that you work for is more important than the role that you are applying for as with most companies it’s fairly easy to move around internally once you have your foot in the door. With this is mind it could be an idea to research a company that you like and send them your CV with a good cover letter to simple ask to be considered for any future positions, regardless of whether the company have advertised vacancies or not.   If you have a good CV and show willing they may just find you a role or offer you a position that they haven’t even advertised for yet.

Jobs in the beauty industry

Posted on January 31, 2015 at 10:14 pm

In the UK the beauty industry is thriving and looking for a job within your chosen area can be widely based search especially in urban areas where there are vast amounts of spas, salons and nail bars in close proximity.

When conducting your search it’s important to ask yourself what sort of business you’d ideally want to work for, considering pay levels, progression prospects and the day to day role that you would be carrying out and see what would suit your career plans the best.

Once you apply for a position you will most likely be asked to do a trade test where you will be expected to demonstrate your practical skills through a number of treatments. This can be very nerve racking so my advice would be to get plenty of practice so that you are confident and can demonstrate your best work under pressure.

Ensure that you attend the interview smartly dressed, ideally in a beauty standard uniform, with neat low-key make up and nails and with long hair tied back off your face.

And don’t forget to smile!
